I finished my first Technologay Project!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
After I finished my investigation, I had to start the planning part. At the begining of the planing part I looked on a few websites about paper airplanes how a paper aiplane works and afterwards I folded, cut, and taped 6 paper airplanes. I built them to get a feeling about how a paper airplane should be build and to get ideas for parts I could take for mine. Here are some Pictures of them:
The Hurricane Paper Airplane
The Saturn Paper Airplane
A Walkalong Glider
The Ketch Paper Airplane
The Scout Paper Airplane
The Albatross Paper Airplane
The last two paper airplanes gave me idea how to build mine. I did not have to plan long until I made my prototype. I had design for it right in my had so I started to build my prototype. After about 15-20 minutes, the prototype was done. Here are some pictures of it:
Lenght: 24 cm
Lenght of Wings: 26 cm
Width of Wings at Thickest Point: 6 cm
Widht of Body: 2 cm
Height of Body: 4 cm
For the first time building this paper airplane I did pretty well. But after a while I saw that there were some problems. There were 2 major problems. A lack of detail and area of the wings were to small. Becauss of this I started a new airplane, my paper airplane 2.0 which is my final airplane.
Here are all the steps I made until it was done:
At first I drew the body on folded piece of squared paper.
Afterward I cut it out.
This is how it looked after I cut the body out.
Here from a different view.
This is the small wing that contolls the side movements.
Then I cut out the two small wings for the back of the plane. Afterwards I pluged them together and taped them so they would not fall apart.
This is the major wing.
Here the wing from a different angle.
This was the part that took me the longest to build.
It took me about 10 minutes just for this part.
This is how it looked like at the end. This triangular thing is a reinforcement for the wings because they are so big that they would simply collaps. This triangle is made out of one piece of paper which I folded to make it stronger, so it would hold the wings.
For the prototype I only used a single straight bar to reinforce the wings. The improved design is also giving the front of the wings reinforcment not just the middle.
This is how it looked like when I taped the reinforcment to the wings.
After these steps I only had to attach the wings to the airplane. After this I tested it several time and made some small reinforcements.
My paper airplane is a glider, which means that it is build so that some just drops it and it glides away. My airplane has one special ability. I wanted my airplane to be special so I experimented a little with its flying abilities.
My Airplane doesn´t glide forwards, it glides backwards!!!!!
Here some picturs of my airplane:
Here are some comparison pictures of the prototype and my final product:

The Sizes of my Plane:
Lenght of Body: 28 cm
Diameter of Body: 2.5
Length of Wings: 29 cm

Carsten.
